    • Summary: The Asia Pro Eco II B - Post Tsunami Programme is a
      tailor-made programme specifically designed to help local communities
      rehabilitate and reconstruct effectively and efficiently in the
      Tsunami-hit areas of India, Indonesia, Maldives, Thailand and Sri
      Lanka.

    • Priorities and financed activities:
      • Objectives:
        • To provide aid through partnership and capacity-building in order to assist with the sustainable reconstruction and rehabilitation of the coastal settlements affected by the Tsunami
        • To enhance capacities to improve the existing coastal and urban environment applying environmental hazard risk management criteria and to plan likewise for new or expanding settlements/civil and public infrastructures in a sustainable way
        • To encourage EU-Asian partnerships and to reinforce existing links between European and Asian environmental stakeholders
        • To raise EU-Asian awareness of difficulties existing in these areas and to develop links that can ultimately lead to mutually beneficial co-operation
        • To educate and involve local populations in the realm of environmental hazards risk management and planning
        • To contribute to improved health and sanitary conditions in the regions affected
        • To contribute and build upon the current efforts through relief,
          rehabilitation and reconstruction initiatives
      • The Programme comprises the following two components for which grant
        support may be offered:
        • CAPACITY-BUILDING PROJECTS
        • PARTNERSHIP PROJECTS
      • Financed actions:
        • coastal zone management
        • environmental planning of urban/human settlements
        • waste management/sanitation
        • water management/sanitation
        • sustainable transport networks
        • sustainable energy networks
        • local implementation of international environmental agreements relating to natural catastrophes and/or geologic hazards.
        • other environmentally focussed activities in line with the principle of improved environmental quality and types of interventions determined for the programm

        • INDIA: Tamil Nadu's coastal areas, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala
          states; Andaman and Nicobar islands
        • INDONESIA: Provinces of Aceh and Sumatra Utara
        • MALDIVES
        • SRI LANDA: Districts of Mullaitivu, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Ampara, Hambantota, Matara, Calle, Kalutara,
        • THAILAND: Southwestern provinces: Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi, Trang, Satun and Ranong
