| Towards
a Mediterranean Parks Federation |
The document “A Call for collaboration
towards an Association among the Mediterranean
Parks” suggests the creation of the
Mediterranean Parks Federation. It has
been approved by a “promoting group” consisting
of the Italian Federation of Parks and
Nature Reserves (Federparchi), Generalitat
de Catalunya (Spain), Junta de Andalucía
(Spain), Regione Emilia Romagna (Italy),
Diputaciò de Barcelona (Spain),
Fédération des Parcs Naturels
Régionaux de France, as well as
of some associations, among which Legambiente
in Italy and Depana in Catalonia. The document
is supported by IUCN.
We think that the Association could open
great opportunities in the exchange of
experiences, common work, and positive
pressure on the decision-making bodies
dealing with those issues which are of
great concern to us. Our aim is to improve
the parks’ functionality and enhance
their role in the safeguard and management
of the natural resources belonging to the
Mediterranean, the sea which brings us
together.
The document is circulating among the Mediterranean
Countries and the “promoting group” is
collecting comments and suggestions and
organizing the discussion about it during
the next international events foreseen
in 2006.
